How many pieces to show

Three or four. The instinct is to show range — chibi, full body, backgrounds, a logo, that one dragon — and the result is a grid the client swipes past without stopping.

Pick pieces that match the work you want more of. A portfolio is a filter, not an archive: if you show a style once, you will be asked for it forever.

The card accepts up to ten media items, so there is room to be wrong. There is just no advantage to it.

What to put on the price sheet

Discord commission culture runs on ranges, not fixed prices, because scope moves. A sheet that lists a base price per type plus named add-ons — extra character, complex background, commercial use — ends far more haggling than a single number.

Put turnaround on it too. “2–3 weeks” in writing prevents the message you will otherwise get in week two.

Link the sheet from the Prices button rather than pasting it as an image. Images cannot be updated in someone's DM history; a linked page can.

Etiquette that keeps you out of trouble

Most servers confine self-promotion to a named channel, and posting a portfolio outside it is the fastest way to get muted. The card does not change that rule — it just means one message instead of five when you do post.

In DMs, lead with the card and one sentence. Cold-DMing a wall of attachments reads as spam to both the recipient and Discord's own filters.

Take payment through something with a paper trail. VGen and Ko-fi exist because Discord has no escrow, and a Buy button pointing at a real checkout protects you as much as the client.

Where this sits next to VGen and Carrd

VGen handles the transaction — terms, invoicing, dispute history. Carrd handles the web page. Neither renders inside a Discord message, which is where commission conversations actually start.
