Portfolio Discord card template
A portfolio Discord card is link-in-bio for people who sell work: a title, a gallery of pieces, and Hire me sitting on the preview itself — rendered by Discord when someone pastes your link.
Who this is for
- Commission artists posting in #self-promo and answering DMs all week
- Illustrators and designers whose work lives on Carrd, VGen, or ArtStation
- Freelance developers who get asked for a portfolio mid-conversation
Reach for it when: Commission artists, illustrators, and freelance developers who introduce themselves in Discord DMs.
What a commission DM looks like without one
The usual opener is eight attachments, a Twitter handle, a Carrd, and a price sheet in a fifth message. The client scrolls, loses the price link, and asks for it again — or quietly leaves.
The problem is not the work. It is that Discord flattens every one of those links into a gray tile with no action on it, so the client has to do the sorting.
A component embed collapses that into one message. The gallery stays visible inside Discord, and the two things a buyer actually needs — see more, book me — are buttons on the card.
Build one in about four minutes
Start from the Portfolio template. Upload three or four pieces rather than everything you have; the card renders a gallery, and a scannable card converts better than a complete one.
Put your status in the title, not the body — “Mira Chen — commissions open” reads at a glance in a DM list. Save the description for medium and turnaround.
Point Hire me at whatever you already use to take bookings: a VGen listing, a Google Form, a Trello intake, your own site. Point Prices at the sheet. Every button needs an https URL; Discord drops http.
Editing after your slots fill
Change “commissions open” to “waitlist for October” on the same slug. Discord recrawls the URL on its own cache timer — about 30 minutes — and every message anyone already pasted updates itself.
That is the part a screenshot or a copied snippet cannot do. Clients who starred your message months ago still hold a link that tells the truth.
Common questions
- How many pieces should the gallery show?
- The card accepts up to ten media items, but three or four is the right number. The gallery renders inside a chat message, so a long grid gets scrolled past rather than read.
- Does the client have to click through to see my work?
- No. The gallery renders inside Discord on the paste. Clicking is for the actions — Hire me and Prices — not for seeing whether you are any good.
